20Murphy helms Canada’s newest media empire. After assuming the top job at Corus, he bought Shaw Media for $2.65 billion, bringing 60 TV channels (including Global, HGTV Canada and Food Network Canada) and 39 radio stations under his control. The move increased Corus’s English TV audience share to 35 per cent, putting it neck and neck with Bell. Corus also added a slate of reality real estate shows—Backyard Build, Save My Reno, Home to Win—and announced a new food channel. In 2017, the anticipated drama Mary Kills People debuts.
Murphy is the founder of Hat Trick Stable, a horse racing syndicate.
