The AGO hosted a massive, sold-out bash on Thursday night to celebrate the start of Pride Month. With drinks in hand, partiers explored the gallery’s exhibits, danced to DJs and watched provocative performance art pieces selected by Toronto artist and filmmaker Bruce LaBruce. Here, a few of our favourite looks from the night:
40, Comedian “I was going for a hipster, androgynous, British youth meets lesbian festival-goer sort of look.”
32, vintage clothing seller “My friend gave me this Yohji Yamamoto shirt and I love it.”
26, Student “I wanted to show the two sides of myself: I can be soft and bubbly but I also have a harder edge.”
32, Stage curator “This is me being casual—I wore this to work.”
25, artist/blogger “I was going for a bit of a Memoirs of a Geisha, girly-boy vibe.”
32, Innovation strategist “This purse was my grandmother’s. My style is vintage and classic.”
25, entrepreneur “I always dress a bit bohemian but try to be classy at the same time.”
27, Designer “I like contrast and pattern.”
33, artist “I’m wearing Christmas pajamas—it’s a representation of not being ready.”
21, Student “My tunic was custom-made by “Choose Life Today,” a group of resilient female entrepreneurs I connected with near Nairobi, Kenya last summer.”
37, artivist “I wear a version of this every day to challenge conceptual norms. It’s sort of trashbag-chic.”
19, hostess “I bought this denim jacket in Kensington Market, and the store sewed all the embellishments on for me.”
25, stylist “I’d describe my style as fresh off the runway. The shirt is by DSquared2.”
37, delivery agent “I’m Cree. My parents gave me this beaded armband.”
30, Marketing/communications specialist “I thought, I’m going to a gallery so I may as well wear a piece of art. The bag and the skirt are both from Etsy.”
