Introducing: The Beverley, a new restaurant, boutique hotel and rooftop bar on Queen West
Name: The Beverley Hotel
Contact Info: 335 Queen St. W., thebeverleyhotel.ca, 416-493-2786, @beverleyhotelTO
Neighbourhood: Queen West
Owners: Michael Homewood and Mike Strong
Executive chef: Eric Wood, the former chef at Hawthorne Food and Drink in the Financial District
The place: A five-floor boutique hotel with a restaurant, a Miami-style rooftop lounge and 18 guest rooms. The ground-floor dining room has a masculine feel with polished concrete floors, stainless steel accents and two walls papered with black-and-white shots of Queen West.
The Food: Contemporary Canadian food with a focus on seasonal produce, like roasted-chanterelle garganelle with ramps and a Caesar salad made with dinosaur kale. A sharing plate called the 4-Play, a holdover from chef Wood’s Hawthorne days (which was a holdover from his Fabarnak days) includes four appetizers that change daily. The rooftop patio has a more casual menu with wraps, burgers and salads.
The drinks: Summery mojitos, margaritas and a tequila-based drink called the Hey Beautiful! made with strawberry–black pepper liqueur and mole bitters. The wine list divides bottles into ones for sipping ($35–65) and ones for savouring ($55–330).
The Numbers:
• $140 for the cheapest room at the hotel
• $40 for the Vulgar & Sublime, a combination of house-made potato chips, sturgeon caviar and crème fraiche
• 4 appetizers included in the 4-Play sampler
• 1 Prohibition-style speakeasy in the works for the hotel’s basement

Terrible service. Does not know how to handle a lunch rush downtown. Wasted over an hour waiting for food. Mind you, all I ordered was a burger. The server admitted she mixed up orders but didn’t offer a discount. Ended up leaving to go back to work without lunch. I also orderd one coke while I was waiting, which they made me pay for (again with no discount). It’s not about the money but its the principal. Do yourself a favour and go somewhere else.
