Chris, 27, carpenter
Brampton

“I smoke two to three times a day, usually at home. It really quells my anxiety and helps me stay calm. I like a buzz during the day so I use sativa. At night I smoke indica to fall asleep.”

Jen, 32, makeup artist
Leaside

“I don’t drink, but I do smoke a joint a day. I have ADHD so it helps me focus and be creative. I started when I was 19. I find it’s a great way to bond with other people.”

Daniel, 22, student
Little Portugal

“I hit a joint or a bong maybe once a week. I started last year and want to do it more. If I’m in a big group I often feel introverted; with a small group of good friends it can make me feel great.”

Emily, 24, fundraiser
High Park

“I smoke sativa once a day, almost always at home. I started seven years ago. It fosters creativity and opens my mind to new ways of thinking. I get a bit of grief from my family but it’s not too bad.”

Sabina, 24, student/hairstylist
Mississauga

“I smoke a few times a month. Usually I like it. If I’m stressed it’s good. I haven’t told my family, since they’ll say I’m a pothead, even though I rarely smoke.”

Alike, 33, bartender/comedian
Parkdale

“I smoke when it’s around, maybe a few times a month. I started at 15. My family is from Jamaica via B.C., so it’s no big deal. I find it’s best for when I’m stressed.”

Chris, 20, student/actor
Etobicoke

“I smoke maybe once a month. I prefer Indica, and anything with high cannabinoids, which I think is healthier. I stick to joints and the odd vape. I take a drug for ADD called Concerta, which keeps me pretty wired all day. A single toke helps me settle down. My mom and I have a pretty good relationship, so as long as I’m honest she’s okay with it.”
