Filmmaker and national treasure Sarah Polley began filming her upcoming adaptation of Sylvia Plath’s The Bell Jar in late June, and since then the city has been abuzz thanks to a number of exciting developments. First, ACTRA issued an open call for background actors, provided that they’re “willing to adapt appearance to 1950s style.” Then it was announced, unofficially, that moody alt-pop brainiac Billie Eilish would be starring in the lead role—an unusual yet compelling choice to play Esther Greenwood, the doomed young poet. And over the weekend came perhaps an even more exciting bit of intel: Connor Storrie will also appear in the film.

Here’s what we know: Friday on Instagram, the Parkwood National Historic Site, a turn-of-the-century mansion in Oshawa that’s frequently used as a film set, posted a reel (which has since been taken down) captioned, “That’s camera wrap on Parkwood’s role in the Sarah Polley–directed film, The Bell Jar, starring Billie Eilish in her cinematic debut, along with Connor Storrie.”

Translation: the Heated Rivalry heart-throb, who originally hails from Texas, was hanging out in the Durham region, probably with Eilish. (We hope they stopped by Town Brewery for a cold one after filming wrapped.)

As of yet, the Bell Jar production team has not been strong-armed (by the most unlikely of bullies, a museum) into publicly addressing the leak or confirming Storrie’s involvement. If the post proves accurate, it would mark another major milestone for the actor, who remains by all accounts one of Hollywood’s most humble and charismatic rising stars.

Storrie’s rapid rise to fame may feel both familiar and a little unsettling to Polley, who experienced a similar whirlwind ascent as a child actor. Her first-hand understanding of the scrutiny that accompanies sudden stardom may explain why Storrie’s involvement in the project was seemingly kept under wraps.
