Fucked Up’s Damian Abraham to host revived version of The Wedge as MuchMusic goes back to the future

Damian Abraham (a.k.a. Pink Eyes) is many things: dramatic, topless, a dad, talented and, as of January 26, the host of MuchMusic’s revived show The Wedge. Known for such on-air antics as trashing his performance space (a bathroom) on MTV Live or stripping down to his underwear after winning the Polaris Prize, Pink Eyes is a bold choice but hopefully a positive one. He told Canadian Press, “I want this show to be fun. I want people to tune in and see an interesting side of this kind of music. But yeah, there’s gonna be some weirdness. You can’t have me on TV without it being weird.”

The Wedge is part of Much’s reinvigorated music programming and will air alongside another ’90s favourite, RapCity. Both shows are set to return in January, the latter with host Tyrone Edwards. This back-to-basics approach—read: actual music will be incorporated into the programming—comes in the wake of the CRTC ruling against Much’s request to increase its lifestyle programming. Seems the CRTC felt MuchMusic shouldn’t be just another MTV. Hey, if that means less Pretty Little Liars and more The Wedge, we couldn’t agree more.

The Wedge starts January 26, and RapCity starts January 20 (featuring an interview with Drake).
