Twice a year, Canadian artisans of all persuasions (mostly from Ontario and Quebec) come together at the Direct Energy Centre to present their wares to shoppers in search of everything handcrafted and—you guessed it—one of a kind. If you’re hoping to knock out some serious holiday shopping at this year’s show, arrive with a balance-free credit card or a wallet full of cash, because these trinkets don’t come cheap. The show runs until December 4 (10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sundays), and to help you navigate your way through the sprawling convention space (and away from a lot of the patchwork and tchotchkes), we’ve put together our top 10 booths to check out at this season’s One of a Kind Show. Find out who made the cut after the jump.

- For edgier statement jewellery, Biko is a must-stop booth. Sold year-round at the Drake General Store, Love of Mine, Labour of Love and other retailers, Biko’s pieces consistently look like they jumped out of the pages of Vogue. They’re made of new and vintage materials, and there’s a softness to Biko’s edge that girls can’t get enough of. Designer Corrine Anestopoulos has essentially perfected the unique, mixed-metal aesthetic that is, seemingly, here to stay. (Image: Lia Parsley)

- Erin Tracy’s sparkly, feminine pieces have been available at the One of a Kind Show for years, and for good reason: universally elegant and light, this line appeals to most women. We dug Tracy’s stackable rings that merge material, texture and colour, and if you’re in the market for custom engagement rings or wedding bands, definitely stop here to chat with the designer about starting from scratch. - Montreal designer Eve Gravel is a One of a Kind staple. Season after season, her booth appeals to both fashion seekers and random show-goers with its whimsical design and cool, muted tones. For unique clothing in blacks, browns, creams and greys, Gravel’s corner at the One of a Kind will likely have you leaving with a bag (or several) in hand. Most street style-appropriate pieces range from $100 to $250 (apart from coats), and would be welcomed by both preppy girls and man repellers. (Image: Lia Parsley)

- For the HBC Signature Collection lovers out there, Hides in Hand is a booth so quintessentially Canadian you may just turn your back on the beloved multicoloured stripes. Moccasins, mittens, journals and other leather goods at Hides in Hand use moose and deer hides from quality-controlled Ontario hunts that are tanned locally. Definitely visit this booth if you’re grasping at gift idea straws for all those west end lumberjacks. (Image: Lia Parsley)

- Earth to Body’s line of “natural handcrafted skin nutrition” will appeal to almost everyone in search of bath and body products at the One of a Kind Show. A passionate, family-run company, Earth to Body was born on the shores of Lac St-Louis, West Island Montreal, and now sources ingredients from around the world (argan oil from Morocco, shea butter from Burkina Faso, Dead Sea salt from Israel, rock crystals from the Himalayas and emu oil from Australia) to produce high-quality products worth looking into. And really, who doesn’t love to receive fair trade certified and organic skin care? Parabens and sulfates are so three years ago. (Image: Lia Parsley)

- Check out newcomer Baby Elephant Designs for cute holiday cards and small gifts. Designer and illustrator Joanne Cheung’s first self-published children’s book, Sometimes..., is a sweet present for new or expecting parents, and her cards have that handcrafted, anti-Hallmark feel that will keep them on mantles well into the New Year. - To satisfy a holiday sweet tooth, Bruce County Nut and Fudge Co.’s gourmet caramel apples are perfect for stuffing Christmas stocking toes. With flavours like Jingle Berry (caramel with toasted pistachios and dried cranberries drizzled with white Belgian chocolate) and cookies and cream (dipped in white Belgian chocolate and rolled in Oreo cookie crumbs), our blood sugar is rising just writing this. For other treats, classic homemade fudges and amped-up nuts like coconut cashews and cinnamon sunflower seeds are also sure to kick holiday energy into high gear. We like to eat. (Image: Lia Parsley)

- Inspired by Mexican beach culture, Scout and Catalogue’s scarves, pouches and clutches have developed something of a cult following among Toronto’s fashionable ladies. Hailing from Vancouver and leaving her big-girl job at Aritzia headquarters to live a simpler, more balanced life, designer Breanna Musgrove has a knack for infusing breezy, bohemian aesthetics into all that she does. Be sure to check out the holiday “Shine” collection. (Image: Lia Parsley)

- Those looking to kitsch up a space with retro-inspired art should check out Toronto-based artist Kelly Grace’s booth. Her inspiration comes from carnivals (clowns run in the family), all things vintage, and retro beauty icons like Grace Kelly—think Coney Island meets Princess of Monaco as a Vargas girl. With small pieces starting at $60, this is good, affordable art worth checking out. And the coolest thing about Kelly Grace is not just her work—it’s that her name is actually real.
