Pizzeria Badiali, the New York–style slice joint that turned lineup culture into a sport, is about to take over the Annex. This morning, the Badiali team announced that their Mirvish Village location will open on May 11. This is bad news for the neighbourhood’s other takeout counters, good news for anyone who likes pizza.

Badiali’s Markham Street spot is opening in a restored Victorian on a corner lot, previously the home of the original Victory Café. It’s very much in the spirit of the brand’s flagship shop while also representing the next step in the evolution of the city’s most talked about pizzeria.
Co-owned by industry-certified slice specialists Nick Halligan, Owen Walker and Ryan Baddeley, Badiali 2.0 has a 30-seat dining room, with front and side patios adding plenty of extra seats in the warmer months. It’ll make for an ideal spot to have a slice and sip a glass of wine. There will also be Peroni and Aperol spritzes on tap.
“We’re excited to join the Annex neighbourhood and even more excited about reopening this historic building for people to come have great pizza and hang out with their friends and family,” says chef and co-owner Ryan Baddeley. “We’re very fortunate to have had such a warm reception to our first slice shop and hope to quickly integrate ourselves into this amazing part of Toronto.”
As for the pizza, all the standard slices will be on offer alongside a new addition exclusive to the Markham Street location: crispy-bottomed, sauce-on-top grandma-style pies, which are less about grab-and-go and more about sitting down—thank goodness for all the seats.
