My Market Bakery in Kensington is kaput

The little bread-and-pastry shop at 184 Baldwin Street sold its final loaves on August 2, after 17 years in operation. It’s the second longstanding Kensington business to close in a matter of months, the other being nearby butcher Kensington Meats. In a note in the bakery’s window, owner Ping Chiu thanks customers for their support and signs off with the following reminder: “The Kensington Market is turning into a foodie’s haven but remember to support the green grocers. Your vegetable, fish, meat, spice and nut stores all need you to keep going.” Chiu also owns next-door dairy shop Cheese Magic, which is still up and running.
They told me that it was sold, and that another bakery will be opening in its place — so we’ll see…. But I suspect that whatever replaces it will be more upscale and trendy, and expensive.
A sad day! This was a childhood staple for me. I would stop in every morning on my way to junior high and get a MASSIVE muffin for only 75 cents! Kensington is almost unrecognizeable nowadays.

Blame the fickle hipsters, they are ruining this city
The shop is back up and running if its of anyone’s concern. i actually like their bread better then the bread a couple doors down at Blackbird Baking Co. :)
Yes and they love to pay more than things are worth, guess that is why Whole Foods exists. Sadly it happened to Queen West now Kensington
Me too really good selection of breads. Besides Blackbird is crazy for nuts in everything can’t even chance shopping there.
