Clint Eastwood’s Hereafter and 11 other chick flicks that dudes like
Yesterday, TIFF announced that Clint Eastwood’s Hereafter would have its world premiere at this year’s film festival. The movie, in which death brings together the lives of three characters, stars Matt Damon (a troubled psychic who can talk to the dead), Bryce Dallas Howard (his girlfriend, but also Twilight’s new Victoria) and Cécile De France (a French journalist) in a narrative that Eastwood describes as a “chick flick, but one men will like, too.” Not sure what constitutes a chick flick that dudes like? When Harry Met Sally
It’s one of the all-time classic rom-coms—the hilarious old couple interviews, the witty repartee and, of course, the fauxgasm—but without the gooey sentiment and cheese. When Harry Met Sally is as much a story about falling in love as it is about how to avoid sleeping with your female friends.
We’ve never met a person—male or female—who doesn’t like Clueless, and if we ever do, we’ll refuse to speak to them—kind of like the time Cher cut out Elton after he left her in a parking lot.
At the time, Blue Lagoon was for young girls what Showgirls was to men—soft-core porn with a reasonably tolerable plot. But instead of a hack like Elizabeth Berkley, Blue Lagoon stars a nubile Brooke Shields. What’s not to like?
Ellen Page kicks ass in the roller derby (tough chicks in short skirts) and is the epitome of the cute girl who can also chug a beer.
A high school comedy written by the hilarious (to men and women) Tina Fey, the movie is about hot girls fighting—at one point under a sprinkler and at other times in slutty Mrs. Claus outfits and Halloween costumes. Match point.
Hot girls (including a very young Julia Roberts) slinging pies and talkin’ trash.
What is it about Ethan Hawke that men love? The brooding? The facial hair? His questionable personal hygiene? The T-shirts? His prolific dating history? Whatever it is, combine it with a pretty French girl and jaded discussions about love, and you’ve got the perfect “See, I’m sensitive” film every intelligent man shows his new girlfriend.
Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion
The blond duo (Lisa Kudrow and Mira Sorvino) is so absurdly ridiculous (much like the plot) that it’s hard not to laugh. The ’80s-tastic soundtrack and Alan Cumming help.
A League of Their Own
Baseball! Tom Hanks! Sassy ladies! Plus, it goes nicely with a Sunday viewing of Field of Dreams.
Four Weddings and a Funeral
Back when Hugh Grant was lovable, Richard Curtis’ breakthrough rom-com was nominated for best picture and best screenplay at the Academy Awards. Plus, the first line is an f-bomb.
We leave you with this compilation of dance scenes from the film.

Ok, seeing that Alicia Silverstone pic totally reminded me of how awesome Clueless was.
Nice try, but Striptease was Demi Moore, Show Girls was the lack-lustre Eliabeth Berkley film.
