The Property: This home’s exterior has the modern-but-not-too-modern look prized by many suburban buyers. Inside, it has red oak hardwood floors, dramatic vaulted ceilings in the foyer and custom fixtures in the six bathrooms, including ornate crystal taps in the master en suite.

The History: The sellers bought the home in 2011, but moved out in 2014 so they wouldn’t need to live amidst the dust of an extensive renovation by condo developer Shane Baghai. Baghai’s company completely redid the kitchen, bathrooms and decor. The sellers also installed two separate custom security systems to protect all the flashy new stuff.

The Fate: The sellers intended to move back in once the renovations were completed, but a job transfer to California changed their plans. The buyers lived nearby and wanted to move into a bigger home without leaving their family-friendly, multicultural neighbourhood.

The Sale: The home had showings almost daily. Even so, it sat on the market for 45 days. The buyers made an irrevocable offer $228,000 below asking that expired on Boxing Day. After a one-day extension, the sale was completed. They plan on moving into their new home in April.

On the floor plan, this room is called a library, but the owners seem to be using it as a dining room. It’s right next to the living room.
