Condomonium: $1.5 million for a two-level penthouse in a former Annex Catholic school
ADDRESS: 391 Brunswick Ave., Penthouse 2
NEIGHBOURHOOD: Annex
AGENT: Sarah Jane Temple, TFN Realty
PRICE: $1,549,990
THE PLACE: A 2-bedroom penthouse in the schoolhouse, a five-storey condo development in what used to be the Catholic school Loretto College. In keeping with the building’s academic roots, suite models have been named after storied universities, and this unit’s known as “the Stanford.”
BRAGGING RIGHTS: Living in a converted church is rare; living in a converted school is even rarer (and you won’t have to feel guilty about swearing).
BIG SELLING POINT: Oodles of patio space. The 580-square-foot rooftop terrace provides more room for barbequing than most Annex backyards.
POSSIBLE DEAL BREAKER: We’re suckers for hard lofts and converted condos, especially when developers incorporate nifty details like stained glass and freight elevators into the revamps. Though the exterior is eye-catching, there aren’t any features inside that flaunt the building’s past life.
BY THE NUMBERS:
• $1,549,990
• 2071-square feet
• $1,109.42/month maintenance fees
• 580-square foot wrap-around terrace
• 144-square foot balcony
• 9’6″ high ceilings
• 2 bedrooms
• 2 bathrooms
• 2 levels

could they not have (picture 9) put the roll of toilet paper on the toilet paper roll holder?
Sweet, is that a kitchen with two sinks? But I must say again: why do even million dollar properties place the bleedin’ sink under a cabinet? How about designing a swanky AND practical space for once?
As a past Toronto Catholic School girl. Seems perverted.Beautiful tho.
“Staging” No one lives there, because it is staged. If it was staged, it would have coins on the bedroom night-table, toilet paper of course, garbage cans with something in them, laundry ready to be washed, etc.
Just because the seller thinks its worth $1.5M it doesn’t mean it is.
I would pay this price for it if all the staging furniture comes with it…. all good…
I’m sorry that has to be one of the most uninspired loft /condos I have ever seen it is totally boring. If it was staged it did no favours to the condo with its mish mash of bad art , ugly mirrors and predictable staging furniture. The condo is whats for sale although … And it’s cold.
My 2,400 sq ft. semi-detached condo in Newmarket is far nicer… and only 350k with 190. mthly fees… I know, I know… “who wants to live in Newmarket”… but Newmarket is quickly turning into a nice town to live in and it only takes me 35 minutes to get downtown.
you said it, ‘who wants to live in Newmarket’. You answered your question, which is why the ask is 350K.
I’m sure Newmarket is lovely and all jv, but you’re the one posting that on TORONTOlife.com….just saying.
Nice, but not sure that’s $1.5mn nice…
Jeaz, what a dump. I Can’t believe this is going for 1.5. Its really a shame the market is so far off scale right now. The only reason its so expensive is because of the neighbourhood its in. The kitchen is probably the worst feature! At least the rest of it can be changed with good furniture. Yeash!
