The Details: Today, we are reminded that of all the super benefits that food slapped with an “organic” label provides, immunity to harmful bacterias is sometimes not one of them.

The Canadian importer of Earth Green Organic Italian blend salad, Sobeys Quebec Inc., is voluntarily recalling the product due to concerns that it may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. No illnesses have yet been reported from consumption of the packaged salads, which were distributed to stores in Ontario and across Canada, but the Canadian Food Inspection Agency is reminding consumers to be vigilant as this familiar pathogen is particularly sneaky: contaminated food may not look or smell spoiled, but can still carry the bacteria, which of course may cause listeriosis, a food-borne illness that can leave sufferers with an array of unpleasant symptoms (fever, muscle aches, vomiting and diarrhea to name a few). Time to toss those salads... into the garbage. [CFIA]
