Bar Ape, Toronto’s first gelato truck, is now a gelato parlour

For the last two summers, Bar Ape’s (that’s pronounced “ah-pay”) adorable gelato bar on wheels has roamed the city’s streets selling gourmet gelato bars. Now, co-owners James Carnevale and Nick Genova have opened a bricks-and-mortar parlour in St. Clair West, and they’ve added small-batch fruit sorbet and soft serve to the menu. The cash-only operation is open until Thanksgiving. Here’s a look at some of their frozen confections.

Dairy-free chocolate sorbet under a chocolate coating. $5.

Lemon on lemon. $5.

Coconut-and-almond sorbet covered in a coat of white chocolate with coconut and toasted almonds. $5.

The Creamsicle. $5.

There are always two different soft-serve gelato flavours available (three, if you include the twist), with flavours inspired by what their farmer-supplier has available. An Ontario golden plum and chamomile twist is shown here. $5.

Bar Ape’s sundae cup. This one has swirls of Kitten and the Bear’s cherry, apple and raspberry preserves. $5.

To-go pints of gelato in raspberry, coffee, lemon, pomegranate, and coconut. $10 each.
