Latest from Yorkville: Celebs are staying inside until nightfall
This afternoon, we went to the secret celeb hotspot known as Yorkville in an attempt to see a few of our faves, but were shocked at the serenity of it all. The calm before the storm, perhaps? Sassafraz’s patio was nowhere near capacity. One‘s lunchtime terrace was looking sparse. Ditto for other local favourites Remy’s, Hemmingway’s and Flo’s. Like the celebs themselves, the stalkers still seem to be in hiding. The scene at the front doors of The Hazelton and The Four Seasons were all crickets and tumbleweed.
The weather has been good to film fest, but bad to us. We are sweating buckets. We’ve learned that trying to look good at TIFF is much harder than celebs make it look. Maybe this heat is what’s keeping them locked in their sumptuous air-conditioned hotel rooms and press conferences. The heat leaves us wishing we, too, had makeup artists, or, failing that, at least a Karl Lagerfeld-style fan to keep us cool. We’re hoping to run into Tom Ford and see if he knows where Karl gets them.
Celebrities and their gawkers seem to have chosen to wait until dusk to start their TIFF festivities. Perhaps, like the lionesses of the pride, the stalkers have chosen nighttime as the right time to pounce. We plan to do the same. Stay tuned.
Sassafraz is great – great space, nice food. Love the patio space.
And now they have a familiar face to those of us who dine a great deal in the city – James Pollock – if you have ever had the pleasure of James caring for you at Ki or any number of other sites in the city you know how wonderful he is. He’s a master of wine.
