When the Maple Leafs–Canadiens game airs this Saturday, viewers with 3-D television sets will be able to watch Hockey Night in Canada in 3-D for the first time. But the Coach’s Corner segment will remain in good, old-fashioned 2-D because, as Don Cherry puts it, “I’m the star, not 3-D.” Always humble, that Cherry. Then there’s this quote: “Coach’s Corner doesn’t need 3-D. We don’t need a gimmick.” Snap! Guess those suits don’t rate as gimmicky. But when was the last time a Toronto-Montreal game needed a gimmick to increase ratings? Oh well. We’re not sure we want to see Cherry or his suits with any more verisimilitude. Win-win.
