Owen Pallett: “Anonymity does not mean these women do not exist”
—Toronto musician Owen Pallett in a Facebook post about Jian Ghomeshi, who was recently ousted from his job as host of Q on CBC Radio amid allegations of sexual abuse by several unnamed women. Ghomeshi disputes the accusations, which were detailed publicly for the first time in a Star investigation on Sunday, and has filed a $55-million lawsuit against his former employer.
Bless Owen Pallett, for believing the women who have come forward – for not being afraid to say so, when so many people have discounted and vilified them immediately because they haven’t gone to the police, or because they threaten the image of a beloved public pop culture figure…these women, who don’t have the benefit of retaining high powered PR firms, spin doctors, expensive lawyers.
Attempting to hide inside the BDSM world to escape being exposed as a predator/abuser – not surprising either. But the many thoughtful and eloquent practitioners of BDSM who have come forward to clarify what BDSM is and what it is not have changed the conversation, thank goodness.
My very uncomfortable feeling is that Jian’s violence against these women might be of the kind that is inclined, over time, to escalate. Just my opinion, of course. No matter what happens in the legal realm, or the professional realm, or social media realm – I just hope that this public fall from grace has stopped him in his tracks… for his own sake, and for the sake of any starry-eyed young female fan that might find herself alone with him in his home, on what she thinks is a casual, friendly date.
Ultimately one DOES need to question the agendas of The Star and the anonymous sources. The Star opted not to publish Laura Robinson’s investigative piece on John Furlong, a man with serious establishment connections. He was accused of child abuse by 8 people with sworn affadavits. Furlong is connected to the right wing power structure in Canada and The Star seems to be continually creeping in that direction. The smear of Ghomeshi smells as shitty as a “good to go” cheque
While facts are not yet decided, someone needed to speak on CBCs biggest secret…
