Jerseys vs. Suits: Tim Leiweke’s plan to get real Maple Leafs fans into the rink-side Platinum Club seats

It’s one of Maple Leafs fans’ biggest gripes. Corporate season ticket-holders have a lock on the ACC’s most expensive seats, but often fail to show for the start of each period, let alone exhibit the proper level of jersey-wearing, head-clutching, face-painting passion. Now, MLSE head honcho Tim Leiweke has an idea that would open the lower bowl to diehard supporters. While taking questions yesterday at an Empire Club luncheon, the most important man in Toronto sports proposed taking 500 seats currently reserved for season ticket-holders and selling them as single-game seats instead. Don’t start celebrating just yet, though—Leiweke added that he would have to seriously consider the impact on revenue before putting the plan into action. [Toronto Star]
Don’t show your ticket by the middle of the 1st period, flag as available to the general public. If no show by the start of the 2nd period, your seat can be taken.
