Three of the city’s most stylish personalities reveal what they’re buying this fall, plus six of our favourite autumn looks after the jump.
NICHOLAS MELLAMPHY Creative director of The Room
Black Brown 1826’s cashmere jacket $399, The Bay “This cashmere jacket from Black Brown 1826 is going to be the centrepiece of my fall wardrobe—I live in denim and jackets. I’m getting it in both black and charcoal. I love the luxurious texture of the fabric and the super-slim cut.”
JULES POWER Womenswear designer
18 Waits’ Johnny hat $225, 18waits.com “I’m completely in love with 18 Waits’ Johnny hat for fall. It was designed in collaboration with Biltmore, Canada’s oldest hat maker, and made in Guelph. It’s an amazing smoky grey colour and totally in keeping with the earthy gypsy style that’s inspiring me this season.”
COCO ROCHA Model
Greta Constantine’s Doris dress $1,595, gretaconstantine.com “I love the draping on Greta Constantine’s new Doris dress, a midnight blue gown that recalls Old Hollywood. It’s perfect for a red carpet event anywhere.”
Patterned sweater This fall’s abundance of patterned knit men’s sweaters would make Bill Cosby proud. Skip the cable knit for this lambswool pullover (adorned with a stag) made by Gant, the Swiss expert on cold-weather style. $150. Harry Rosen.
Cocktail ruffles Pink Tartan became one of our favourite labels by nailing women’s wardrobe staples. Cocktail attire, like this ruffled silk number, is feminine but not cotton-candy sweet. Look for the first stand-alone Pink Tartan store in Yorkville in November. $425. The Bay.
Buckled boots Chunky, macho footwear is a perfect antidote to the legions of clean-shaven, bespoke-suited dandies out there. And unlike their lumberjack brethren (hello, Timberland), Philip Sparks’s buckled leather boots are both rugged and chic. $185. Town Shoes.
Blinged-out blazer Cardigans may be on shelves everywhere, but blazers, those collegiate autumn staples, are a slicker choice. This tweed version, from new Toronto label Marinette, is embellished with gold buttons on the sleeves and gold leather shoulders. $238. Love of Mine.
Gold bracelet Gold is a hot commodity in fashion these days: Lanvin, Dries Van Noten and Phillip Lim all featured models coated in head-to-toe gilt on recent runways. More wearable is California artisan Rebecca Norman’s 14 karat–plated bracelet, with teardrop Swarovski crystals. $450. The Gardiner Museum.
Leather T-shirt It’s safe to say that rawhide is having a moment (again). This beyond-buttery lambskin tee from Diane von Furstenberg fits loosely and is lined for comfort. $595. Holt Renfrew.
