Big Selling Point: There are so many to choose from: is it the 350-gallon fish tank that straddles the living and dining areas? The Chihuly-esque sculpture above the staircase? The wine cellar? The dry sauna in the basement? The outdoor pool with waterfall? Or maybe just the eight-seat theatre room?
Possible Deal Breaker: This is a whole lot of house. Even just filling up the 18-by-11-foot walk-in closet would be more than the average buyer could handle.

Ouch – what a garish dog’s breakfast.
Developers, if you’re going to try to attempt ‘modern’/contemporary design – hire a design professional. A good architect can be had for ~10% of construction budget and is more than worth that fee, bringing cultivated taste and discretion to the project.
My sympathies go out to the stone, glass and wood vulgarized in this project.

My uncle’s house resided on this property. He got a tour of the new digs by the developer who bought his property MONTHS ago so this house must have been sitting on the market for quite a while. Wonder why?

I thought I’d have a serious case of house envy before I clicked on those photos…. and while I was looking at them I was questioning my own taste and wondering how the hell would I furnish this place and make it look good and like a home at the same time….. Fact is… it’s not very pretty.
This is NOT Lawrence Park. And although I get that everyone has the right to their own taste this is not respectful of the surrounding homes.

As far as I’m concerned, this estate is only missing an elevator, running from the basement all the way up to the top floor, because of my old legs.

They are probably pretending someone lived in it for a year on paper so they can avoid paying business taxes. Are they a licensed new home builder ? Big issue with “builders” and this housing bubble.
I’m almost 150% sure that a “design professional” was involved in a $4M project, it just happens that this does not fit your taste or idea of modern. So be it, you don’t have to buy it (nor do I). (and before you ask, no, I don’t know the seller, builder, agent, or have zero interest financial or otherwise in this property)
What is your idea of “warmth”? This is out of sincere interest. It’s a part of the house-purchaser’s mentality that I have a hard time grasping.
I wasn’t aware you needed a license to build a house. You need to have a license to do some types of construction, yes. But what I think you’re referring to is *registering* with Tarion, for the sake of supplying the purchaser with a new home warranty. It’s not a process that requires licensure, in the traditional sense.
If it’s “lived in”, it’s not a new home; thus, it’s not within the scope of Tarion’s coverage, or the applicable legislation’s requirements.
Not registering with Tarion does not make the builder any less of a builder. Nor does this have an impact on the housing bubble. I’m curious as to how you’re drawing a relationship between the housing bubble and the credentials of builders.
Oh, don’t get me wrong, for the right person, it will be a be a beautiful house, but for me, it looks very sterile. All the chrome and glass gives it a very cold hard lines. It doesn’t have that “homey” lived in look. But that is just me and what I like in a home.
