QUOTED: Toronto deli guy Zane Caplansky on why Toronto should be ashamed of itself
“Toronto is a third-class city. [It’s] a place where great ideas come to die.”
–Zane Caplansky, expressing contempt for city hall’s less-than-hospitable attitude toward Toronto’s beleaguered food-truck scene. Since they went on sale last week, only eight out of the city’s 125 controversial new mobile-vending permits have been snapped up, indicating a passive protest of sorts. Caplansky’s much-less-passive protest aired on Ezra Levant’s Sun News Network programme, The Source, last week. The six-minute segment is embedded above.
That headline is a bit harsh. Business man trying to expand his business, but getting frustrated by red tape isn’t something to be ashamed of. Toronto life writer, you should be ashamed of yourself!
Reading is tough, eh? Here, I’ll help: Writer not ashamed of business man, business man say city should be ashamed.
Hard to take Caplansky seriously when he appears on a show like Ezra Levant’s program.
The Food Truck decision embodies everything about “decision making” by Toronto councillors. “Allow” something just enough to say you’ve allowed it, but put up as many obstacles as possible to make the decision relevant or successful
This guy’s a joke. Give it up already and expand your restaurant business just like all the other Toronto restauranteurs who take chances and make big investments. Grow some balls and stop trying to hide behind a Food Truck. Food Trucks are people who are trying to start into the business on a shoestring budget. Not a guy who already has a successful business. He’s goin’ backwards.
