An audit of the Pickering Casino Resort concluded that operators of the GTA casino did not “properly assess and track high-risk patrons that were not subject to required enhanced scrutiny,” according to a report from the Canadian Press.
The audit was completed by the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario, and as a result, the casino’s operators now face a $170,000 fine.
Mandatory suspicious transaction reports were not submitted following numerous occurrences in which casino patrons demonstrated indications of potential money laundering, the audit found.
Great Canadian Entertainment, which owns the casino, did not respond to comment requests. The company has 15 days to appeal the outcome of the audit.
