Introducing: Pain Perdu, a traditional French bistro in Lawrence Park

Name: Pain Perdu Contact Info: 3185 Yonge St., 416-488-0081, painperdubistro.com
Neighbourhood: Lawrence Park
Owners: Evaristo De Andrade and Yannick Folgoas, who also owns the pretty Pain Perdu pâtisserie on St. Clair Chef: Evaristo De Andrade, a former pastry chef at Pain Perdu pâtisserie

The Food: Chef De Andrade hails from Côte d’Azur on the French Riviera. His classic bistro menu is about as decadent as it gets: foie gras on brioche, escargots tucked in puff-pastry baskets and steak smothered in creamy Bearnaise.

The Place: This new uptown bistro is a spin-off of the Pain Perdu pâtisserie on St. Clair, which is well-known for its croissants and other French confections. The simple white-walled room (formerly another bistro called Steak Frites) is decorated with colourful canvases by chef Evaristo De Andrade, who is also an accomplished artist.

The Numbers: • $65-$145 for a caviar supplement • 20 paintings by chef De Andrade, who is also an accomplished artist • 4 traditional French desserts: crème brulée, lemon tart, chocolat liégeois (i.e. chocolate ice cream with whipped cream) and profiteroles
