Where’s the beef? At Jacobs and Co., clearly

Just shy of a year ago, Jacobs and Co. Steakhouse unveiled their new 14,000-square-foot flagship at CIBC Square, complete with multiple dry-aging rooms, signature hulking cuts overseen by executive chef Danny McCallum and its very own piano lounge. It seems like the go-big-or-go-home approach is working: the World’s 101 Best Steak Restaurants list dropped yesterday, and Jacobs climbed to No. 51—its best showing yet—up from No. 76 in 2025 and No. 73 in 2024.

“Being recognized for the third consecutive year and reaching our highest ranking yet is an incredible honour,” says managing partner Gus Kosta Giazitzidis. “This achievement reflects the passion and precision of our entire team, from our culinary program led by executive chef Danny McCallum to our front-of-house team delivering the level of hospitality our guests have come to expect.”

In making the list, a selection committee evaluates restaurants according to 29 criteria including meat selection, variety of cuts, excellence in taste, origin, distinction and marbling. Each restaurant is assessed by experienced “steak ambassadors” through anonymous visits and detailed evaluations. (Where do I sign up?) Each shortlisted restaurant undergoes at least one visit before a final evaluation by members of the executive team. All in all, it’s arguably more exacting than the selection process for a Manhattan private school.

New to the list this year: Linny’sDavid Schwartz’s sleek old-school steakhouse on Ossington—coming in at No. 63.

This article previously stated that Jacob’s and Co. was the only Toronto restaurant to make the list, when it turns out that Linny’s Steakhouse made a showing this year at No. 63. (Jacob’s is the only Toronto steakhouse to make the list three years in a row.) We’re sorry, Linny’s! The post has since been updated.
