We could use some nice news, so let us tell you about Penny, a Doberman pinscher and newly crowned Toronto legend who just won the top prize at the most prestigious US dog show.
Penny gave it her all at the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show in New York City, winning Best in Show. This is basically the canine version of an Olympic gold medal.

Per the Associated Press, Penny’s co-owner Greg Chan, who is from Toronto, said the dog is “very demanding and very smart,” and added that she is also “a pleaser” who will “do anything for food.” We hope she got all the treats she wanted after achieving this victory, and we should probably put Penny on a billboard in Sankofa Square, too.
Speaking of, the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show paid a sweet tribute to Catherine O’Hara, the beloved Canadian comedy actress who died last week at the age of 71. One of the many hilarious films O’Hara starred in was the 2000 mockumentary Best in Show, in which she played a Florida dog-handler with a spicy past. In the movie, the Norwich terrier she owns with Eugene Levy, her fictional husband, makes it to the final round of a competitive dog show.
Just before the real-life terriers had their moment to compete, a video tribute to O’Hara played on the Madison Square Garden jumbotron, calling the actress “A true legend, timeless talent and icon.”
