QUOTED: Disgruntled Grits leak email urging provincial Liberals to skip TIFF
It has come to my attention that some MPPs, candidates, and staff are being approached about attending TIFF events. I strongly encourage you to decline any invitations. As a team, we have a single focus: support our campaign to ensure the Ontario Liberal Party is successful on Oct. 6. Accepting invitations to TIFF plays no role in that, so I would ask you to decline any invites you may receive.

So does this mean “no freebies” or “do not attend TIFF, period”? While haters may call politicians attending TIFF events as “elites,” I would think that it shows that the Liberals: (a) support the Arts (unlike some local politicians), (b) support an event that brings international attention and prestige to the Toronto, (c) support for an industry that brings in revenue and jobs to Ontario. Whether it’s TIFF or Pride, we want to know that our politicians are real people–people who are in touch with ordinary citizens, and do the things that ordinary citizens do. TIFF is for real people. The Libs (or politicians of any stripe) should not be afraid of it.
