Former prime minister Justin Trudeau is in the Swiss Alps this week, and while we can’t say whether he reprised his former role as a snowboarding instructor, he did resume his post as an important guy giving speeches about policy.
At the World Economic Forum, ahead of US President Donald Trump’s arrival, Trudeau rejected the president’s 51st-state rhetoric.

He told attendees, “Never underestimate the resolve, the motivation and strength of people standing up to defend their sovereignty, their identity, their very existence.” He was speaking specifically about Ukraine when he said this, but we imagine it resonated more broadly, with Trump’s focus during the conference anticipated to stay on colonizing Greenland.
Trudeau got a plus-one for the function, and yes, that VIP lanyard went to Katy Perry. The two appear to have been dating since last summer, and they hard-launched on Instagram about a month ago, with Perry posting several photos to several carousels, so it must be serious.
In her recent holiday photo dump, Perry showed off a gold maple leaf necklace, presumably a gift from her Canadian boyfriend. But is her stylist bold enough to have her wear it at the World Economic Forum? Not according to the photos we’ve seen so far. A missed opportunity for a CanCon serve.
