Director Bruce Macdonald, who is famous for Hardcore Logo (and evidently directing several episodes of Degrassi: The Next Generation) was asked to oversee the vision for Bedouin Soundclash’s “Brutal Hearts” video, featuring Coeur de Pirate. The video takes place in Kensington Market, and instead of pedestrian Sundays, vintage shopping and public loiterers, we see Jay Malinowski sporting a poncy haircut, while Beatrice Martin (Coeur de Pirate) rides around on her bicycle. It’s admittedly a tad confusing—at one point there’s a young girl slathering on what we assume is her mother’s makeup—but the view of Toronto through a black and white lens is quite beautiful (but really, why is that girl there?).
