“Let’s just get on with it.”

—Councillor and 2014 mayoral hopeful Karen Stintz, advising her council colleagues to give up trying to pressure Rob Ford into quitting. “He is not going to resign, so we need to take the mayor at his word and we need to continue on with the business of the city,” Stintz told reporters yesterday—a forgiving approach from someone with a record of verbally slamming Ford. It sounds like Stintz is just trying to save herself a fruitless headache: Toronto has no legal mechanism to remove the mayor from office (unless he’s jailed on criminal charges), while a defiant Ford has vowed, “I’ll be running this ship, even if it’s by myself.” He may have just found himself an unlikely crew member.
