
Canadian airlines including Air Canada, Air Transat, WestJet and Porter have resumed service in and out of the Puerto Vallarta area today, following a temporary suspension due to violence in the region.

The recent death of a Mexican cartel leader who was captured by Mexican special forces prompted cartel members to launch retaliatory attacks. Tourists and locals were instructed to shelter in place for their safety, and the military closed and secured the Puerto Vallarta airport.
According to the Canadian Press, more than 26,000 Canadians are in Mexico and have registered their presence with Global Affairs Canada.
As many now make their way out of Mexico, a Canadian government travel advisory remains, telling travellers to exercise a high degree of caution in the area. Those with planned trips to Mexico are advised to avoid non-essential travel.
