Ben & Izzy’s kosher deli opens in the city’s northwest end
Ben Venasio and Izzy Bernath, two first-time restauranteurs who refined the art of meat smoking with Venasio’s grandfather, have opened a hipster deli just north of the cluster of old-school delicatessens that dominate Bathurst Street between Eglinton and Lawrence. They smoke their meats in house and serve kosher classics like corned beef sandwiches, latkes and matzo soup. Ben & Izzy’s, 3513 Bathurst Street, 416-787-3354, @benandizzys
You serve “lakes”?
They meant Latkes, which are potato patties

South of Wilson is the north end of the city? On Bathurst is the west end of the city? I know you guys don’t get out of downtown much but, yeah…no.
I’m hoping they mean ‘matza ball soup’. Matza soup is just plain wrong.
Ummm… traditionally, they are quite accurate. Maybe not so much West, but certainly North. I refuse to start changing the way I refer to parts of Toronto just because North York has been added in. North Toronto is Eglinton to Lawrence. Midtown is Bloor-Yorkville and Downtown is south of college. But yeah, certainly Bathurst is and has alwys been pretty central, unless you only consider Toronto running from Bayview to Dufferin.
