Jealous of police, TTC looks to regain people’s mistrust—by kicking families out of their homes
Having gone maybe a full week without annoying, aggravating or exasperating anyone in the city might be a record, but it’s not like the TTC didn’t have help—our attentions were elsewhere. Public transit wants to put an end to its uncontroversial streak and has found the perfect way: by kicking a retired TTC operator and his family out of their lifelong home.
The Toronto Star reports:
Donlands, Greenwood and Woodbine are among those on the Bloor-Danforth line yet to be constructed. In the case of Donlands and Greenwood, initial plans show four houses in total would have to be expropriated.
While it’s a “fait accompli” that the second exits will go in, the exact locations won’t be finalized until a “meaningful conversation” with residents takes place at public meetings this week, said TTC chair Adam Giambrone.
Nothing says “meaningful conversation” like a “fait accompli.” This is an impressive move by the TTC to regain the mantle of least popular city service. It’s now in competition with the police and city housing. Which city service wants to enter the battle royale next? Can the libraries become reader hostile?
Thank you! For writing this! A better graphic would be of the homes they’re planning to demolish, as the proposed exits are on Strathmore Blvd., a quiet, tree-lined, residential street.
i’m glad someone took notice of this.
and actually the library can be hostile
as a fairly new toronto resident, i didn’t know the cards had to be renewed. my license had my old address on it, so i thought a tax return would work.
it did
but only after 10s of minutes and two librarians and me pleading that in fact i do live here.
why are all the city services so hostile? i just don’t get it
