Young and in love? The Drake announces its indie wedding show

Thinking of a backyard wedding, an Ontario cottage-country destination or a living room reception? With Canada’s Bridal Show still several months away, alterna-brides-to-be can visit The Drake Hotel’s Spring Wedding Show on April 30. From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., the lounge will be transformed into a go-to DIY wedding destination, where the matrimonially inclined can browse gowns, cakes, accessories and paper products, and meet with a variety of designers and photographers.

Hosted in collaboration with Toronto’s The Wedding Co., the event has a $10 entry fee but promises to be a wedding-needs smorgasbord (we’re guessing steam punks, neo-goths, nymph fairies and people who listen to Broken Social Scene should all be taken care of). It’s a far cry from paper snowflake cut-outs and Christmas tree lights—indie here means small-scale but with room for decadent displays, like this beautifully set dining table in the Drake restaurant. Still, we’re pretty sure future Kate Middletons need not apply.
