As Canadian retailers brace (and Canadian shoppers squeal) for the arrival of Target, another American department store is quietly planning its entrance into the Canadian market. According to the Globe and Mail, Nordstrom (purveyor of stylish goods at a price point somewhat higher than The Bay, but not quite at the level of Holt Renfrew) is finalizing plans to open four stores across the country, three of which will replace current-Sears locations. Industry sources say the first Toronto location will open in Sherway Gardens mall, although the retailer also has its sights set on Yorkdale Mall and Sears’ flagship store in the Eaton Centre.  Nordstorm has declined to comment on these reports, but told the Toronto Star they are actively scoping Canadian retail space.
