Nordstrom is rumoured to be coming to Canada
As Canadian retailers brace (and Canadian shoppers squeal) for the arrival of Target, another American department store is quietly planning its entrance into the Canadian market. According to the Globe and Mail, Nordstrom (purveyor of stylish goods at a price point somewhat higher than The Bay, but not quite at the level of Holt Renfrew) is finalizing plans to open four stores across the country, three of which will replace current-Sears locations. Industry sources say the first Toronto location will open in Sherway Gardens mall, although the retailer also has its sights set on Yorkdale Mall and Sears’ flagship store in the Eaton Centre. Nordstorm has declined to comment on these reports, but told the Toronto Star they are actively scoping Canadian retail space. [Globe and Mail]
PLEASE PLEASE LET THEM TAKE OVER THE SEARS STORE AT EATON CENTRE. WHAT A DUMP OF A PLACE FOR PRIME TORONTO SHOPPING. I HAVE NEVER SEEN A PIECE OF GARBAGE LIKE WHAT’S AT THE SEARS EATON CENTER. AND OH! FIRE ALL THE STAFF THERE TOO WHEN YOU MOVE IN, THEY KNOW NOTHING AND CARE NOTHING ABOUT CUSTOMERS OR SERVICE!
I TOO ENJOY ALL CAPS AND EXCLAMATION MARKS!
hey – what about the hudson bay location at bloor and yonge? noone will miss that
lets start with the biggest eye sore in the biggest and most prominent location, Sears @ Eaton centre!!!!
This rumour does extend to the rest of Canada as well….not that you care but just to give you a full picture. I image it will replace most of the Sears stores in the 4 Cdn cities….no more online shopping…yahoo (that means I am happy in Calgary).
Would love to see a mid-high range department store take and expand Club Monaco’s space at Bloor and Queen’s Park.
Sears belongs in a big box store format like Walmart. And what can you get there that you can’t get at Walmart anyway. I can’t wait for Nordstrom.
Kelti- this is a toronto magazine, of course no one cares about the rest of the country!!! seriously, why would any of these readers give a sh*t what happens at chinook mall in calgary for example?
Sears is a dump and eyesore. Embarressment for Yorkdale, Eatons Centre, Sherway Gardens, Fairview Mall, etc. The faster it disppears and Nordstrom replaces it….the better. Nordstrom’s is a beautiful store full of great products. Can’t wait.
Yeah Kelti, we Torontonians don’t give a shit about the person sitting next to us on the subway, let alone people all the way in some other province. Haven’t you heard the official Toronto slogan? It’s “Me, me, me!!!”
