Jeanne Beker trades N.Y. fashion week for Vancouver 2010, blogs about it
Jeanne Beker swapped her Fashion Television mic for an Olympic torch in Vancouver—a far cry from her regular rounds backstage and in the front row at international fashion weeks. Beker has been getting her bearings as Olympic fashion reporter while pint-sized blog pundit Tavi Gevinson takes the reins temporarily during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York, a gig Beker has already underlined as a one-time deal.
For a reporter who has been covering fashion shows for more than 25 years, Beker has masked any dislike she may have for the location change this season, enthusiastically taking in Vancouver’s sportswear-saturated street fashion and filling her time interviewing Canada’s famed and fabulous.
Dean and Dan Caten of DSquared2 took some time to show Beker a thing or two about bowling—a pastime of the dapper twins, who play the sport to “unwind” at the end of the day when they’re done work at their factory outside of Venice—before they flew to Milan to present their womenswear collections. The design dandies wore “natty bow-ties” underneath their nylon torchbearer uniforms, to Beker’s delight. But Beker was not without her own Olympic-inspired ensembles; she appeared on CTV’s Olympic Morning show wearing the Loudmouth Golf pants the Norwegian curling team has been wearing. She matched the diamond-patterned trousers with knee-high Louboutin boots. (We wonder how this pairing would go over in New York.)
Beker’s fashion schedule has been packed with Granville Island boat rides, salmon fishing, curling and the men’s figure skating long program. Instead of chatting with Marc Jacobs, Diane von Furstenberg and newcomer prodigy Prabal Gurung in the fashion tents, Beker’s planning on hitting up the Roots celebrity lounge at the Shangri-La Hotel, to prowl for swag.

Who ok’d the Norwegian Curling teams pants? Four!
I’m glad to see a new face like Tavi Gevinson taking over for Jeanne Beker at Fashion Week in New York. It is always good to have a new perspective on things. Jeanne deserved a break at the Olympics, she looked good there.
Jeanne Becker good choices for reporting on the Olympic fashion wear, what’s next? And where does she go from here?
I like Jeanne Becker and it is nice that she was able to cover the Olympics, they don’t come around as often as the Fashion Week. She’ll be back next year in her perfect form.
I love the coverage Jeanne Becker is doing and think her opinions are spot on.
I must say i watch her today with Ti Low (I am sure that is spelled wrong) and i loved his olympic toque in the black and red twead. Does any one have any idea where this can be purchased?
Jeanne Beker is doing great as an Olympic “fish out of water.” Really enjoyed her article @ CTVOlympics.com. Interesting to read a different perspective.
She’s a good sport!
Can’t imagine Rod Black doing FASHION WEEK!!!
I couldnn’t imagine Fashion Week coverage without Jeanner Beker, those two go hand in hand. But, her gig at the Olympics did leave me wondering… if I can pull off Loudmouth Golf pants?
She did a great job!
I have to say, every time I come to http://www.torontolife.com there is another fascinating article up to read. One of my friends was telling me about this topic several weeks ago. I think I’ll e-mail them the link here and see what they say.
