Introducing: 6 By Gee Beauty, Rosedale’s new travel boutique

Two doors down from Gee Beauty, 6 is a luxury travel boutique

The place: Sisters Celene, Natalie and Stephanie Gee and mother Miriam have opened a travel-essentials shop two doors down from their Gee Beauty salon. With deep chocolate hardwood floors, sunny walls, bleached coral accessories and oversized luggage, the place feels so much like a tropical cabana we were tempted to ask for a mojito. You can even work on a sun-kissed glow in a spray-tanning booth by St. Tropez, administered by the Gee girls ($50).

The stuff: Perfumes from Le Labo, a New York City fragrance company, are the big draw. 6 By Gee Beauty is the exclusive carrier of the brand in Canada, which is sold worldwide by the likes of Parisian powerhouse of cool Colette and Barney’s in NYC. Such scents as rose, bergamot and labdanum (50 mL $132, 100 mL $205) are blended to suit each customer’s taste—almost like a bespoke approach to perfume. The aromas are floral but powerful—any more than one spritz would have elevator mates cringing. Walls are dotted with such quirky pieces as Lomography cameras ($40–$370), books (though the hardcovers don’t exactly lend themselves to poolside reading) by Scott “The Sartorialist” Schuman and Todd Selby, and miniature vials ($25) that meet air travel restrictions for favourite shampoos and body washes.

The shoppers: Smack dab in the middle of Rosedale (Le Petit Castor, Rebel House and Globe Earth Bistro are all steps away), the place is unsurprisingly inundated with a ladies-who-lunch crowd, many of whom are Gee Beauty devotees. With a guy-friendly selection of vacation goods—like Malin and Goetz shower gels ($43) and Urbanears headphones (our favourites are the ’80s-style foam ones)—fellas planning a South Beach getaway should stop in.

Our favourite things: The Assouline travel guides ($125) for Europe and countries as far flung as India and Argentina make great gifts for anyone who wants a travel experience a touch more luxe than that proposed by Lonely Planet. We loved the collection of totes by Sea Bags ($40–$250), made from recycled boat sails, in white with navy blue accents, perfect as a beach tote for a Stieg Larsson novel or copies of US Weekly.
