Summer is in full swing and so is the annual urge to relish every possible outdoor moment before Labour Day. Garden decor has become big business in Toronto, with people rushing to splurge on everything from full outdoor rooms to portable accessories that can be enjoyed year-round.
For this chapter of Design Scout, we visited three major outdoor furniture design shops in the King Street East neighbourhood: Andrew Richards Designs, Jardin de Ville and Fresh Home and Garden. Check out some of our finds, because we think it might be time to do more than just pot a plant and put out some paper lanterns. See our 14 picks after the jump.

- This circular outdoor sofa is a fresh take on modular seating. The orange and grey colour palette is modern, and the cushions are comfortable and durable. We love the idea of placing a portable fireplace in the middle for a romantic night en plein air! $11,485.

Andrew Richards Designs, 571 Adelaide St. E., 416-601-1451, andrewrichardsdesigns.com
- Jardin de Ville has created a whole series of interesting outdoor dining chairs, including this semi-invisible one that resembles a modern ghost chair. The Ego-K chair comes in grey and clear. $154.

Jardin de Ville, 44 Sherbourne St., 416-363-8323 Jardin de Ville

- We think the all-white look of this set will never go out of style (call it the white Keds of outdoor furniture). The modular sofa is made of soft leather in “nautic white,” while the overhead canopy is custom-built with draped water-resistant material. Who says a person can’t host a fabulous outdoor party on a rainy day? Still, be careful of dirt. $22,100 (as seen) and custom-made pavilion (see store for pricing).

Jardin de Ville, 44 Sherbourne St., 416-363-8323 Jardin de Ville

- This umbrella caught our eye with its stingray shape and aqua colour. We’re not sure if the shape makes it more effective than a traditional umbrella, but it’s perfect for kids by the pool. $6,395.

Andrew Richards Designs, 571 Adelaide St. E., 416-601-1451, andrewrichardsdesigns.com

- This outdoor island would be the perfect drink and snack hub for any backyard barbecue or patio space. We like the light warm wood and foldout sides for extra prep space—and extra drinks. $4,000.

Fresh Home and Garden, 16 Eastern Ave., 416-367-3906,www.fresh.ca

- This take on nautical and art deco decor has been styled specifically for the outdoors. Durable cushions meet a sturdy, almost rib-like wooden frame to create a Breton-like stripe effect. It was our favourite find of the day, because we long for a day at sea. $3,995.

Andrew Richards Designs, 571 Adelaide St. E., 416-601-1451, andrewrichardsdesigns.com

- These adorable little poufs are great for extra seating in an outdoor environment and could also work indoors once the weather gets colder. We're into the unique punching-bag shape, which is surprisingly comfortable. $1,514.

Jardin de Ville, 44 Sherbourne St., 416-363-8323 Jardin de Ville

I’d love a similar article where everything was 1/3-1/2 the price.
absolutely…can we deal in reality Toronto life..who can afford this..these prices are ridiculous….get real
If you spend that much for patio furniture, I will never talk to you guys again. ridiculous. Toronto, the over priced, seriously, what’s next parking spots costing $100,000…wait it just has been done.
I’m not sure what your editors consider to be ‘finds’, but a running ad for Andrew Richards Designs to the tune of $11,000 for an outdoor set is embarrassing. Do some research into your own city for once and actually dig up something unique for a reasonable price. Yawnsville to this article, once again.
If somebody is willing to spend $5,000-$22,000 on patio furniture they are sure as hell not going to start by scanning Toronto Life; they’re just going to speak to their designer. This article is somewhere between sad and worthless.
Seriously have TO Life never heard of IKEA? Canadian Tire? A $12,000 outdoor sofa is not a find- it’s a car or a hell of a lot of mortgage payments…
This is why I have unsubscribed from Toronto Life. some good articles once in a while, but these furniture “finds” and real estate guides to million-dollar homes in Rosedale & Forest Hill are getting a bit ridiculous.
Nice idea but you can`t be serious about this article be fair not all of us are rich I can agree
It’s looking beautiful but just dream for those who can see it but can’t afford it because of its high cost. Anyway, people are spending million dollars for getting only just a bed and in that point of view it’s also affordable and for somebody I think it’s just their pocket money.
DO NOT order/buy anything from Jardin de Ville.
Friend paid over $20,000 on patio furniture only to have these idiots screw it up several times.
-assemblers arrive at house, but do not know how to assemble
-assemblers take 3 hour lunch break and whine about how to assemble
-patio furniture order not what ordered
-order missing items
STAY AWAY seriously!!!!!
