230 Adelaide St. E., 647-352-8802 Toronto’s offshoot of the Danish design house sets itself apart from the many other furniture stores in its St. Lawrence Market neighbourhood. The handsome, comfortable and functional selection includes a heather-grey loveseat that folds down into a single or double bed. The Milano, an extendable walnut veneer table, has a built-in leaf to accommodate dining for eight ($2,899).

639 Queen St. W., 416-603-0007 Reaching out to the newly mortgaged or married, this lofty space offers designer-inspired pieces for those on a starter budget: the Donovan, a vintage maple dining table, can be found for a mere $1,788, while their in-house designed Saarinen chairs go for $248 and up. On the second floor, Teb Interiors—a store within the store—specializes in custom pillows, linens and drapes.

Many pieces can be customized for tight spaces: clever construction includes Murphy beds and a cocktail console that converts into a dining table. The store also stocks super-cool children’s furniture, like the monochromatic Dimix line, with water-resistant Japanese paper finishes and hidden storage for toys. All furniture is made with sustainable wood.
