The place
A church loft with stained-glass windows, cathedral ceilings and lots of restored brick. We featured a different unit in the building last year. Here’s the main floor:
A closer look at the kitchen:
There’s no space for a living room on the first floor, so it’s up on the second:
The view over the ledge is dizzying and impressive:
This is the guest bedroom, but the owners have it set up as a master bedroom and nursery:
The guest bedroom’s en suite bathroom:
The history
This Neo-Gothic Anglican church, known as St. Mary the Virgin when it opened in 1913, was designed by W.A. Langton, who trained in Boston. It received a heritage designation in 2008, in part because of its large stained-glass triptych. This unit contains the entire thing. The best view is in the master bedroom, on the fourth floor:
The unit has a fancy hammerbeam roof:
The master bedroom’s ensuite bathroom:
Big selling point
There’s a private entrance on the main floor and a one-car garage tucked directly below, for added privacy and convenience:
Possible deal breaker
There are an awful lot of stairs to climb, although having the bedrooms on separate floors does make it easier to find a little sanctuary (pun intended).
