A three-plus-one-bedroom, four-bathroom apartment right on recently facelifted Wellington Street between Spadina and Portland. The pad is lined with exposed brick, hardwood and fantastical art, and it comes with a parking spot and a private elevator. It’s within walking distance of the Well, with Kensington to the north and CityPlace to the south. And motorists are a short drive from the Gardiner, Lake Shore and Yonge.
The original warehouse on this lot was built in 1915 as the Butterick Publishing Building, one of Toronto’s earliest tall commercial structures. In 2001, developers converted the place into eleven lofts. Each home was sold raw and unfinished, allowing owners to add their own flourishes, meaning no two lofts here are alike. The landlord of this unit is the original owner.

This stretch of Wellington is known for its industrial architecture, with a scale you might expect to find in Manhattan.
Elegant brickwork and a green plaza define the building’s façade.
Now for the actual apartment, accessed by this private elevator that leads to a rotunda worthy of English nobility. Those doors lead to a walk-in closet and the laundry room.
Residents pass three bedrooms in this hardwood-heavy hallway en route to the main living area (more on those bedrooms later).
Here’s a shot of the open-concept space from the loft. Its components include a lounge, a rec zone, a dining area and a kitchen. There are 12-foot ceilings throughout.
The loft itself—with solid-ball railings—is currently set up as a gym.
This living space has original exposed brick, beams and arched windows. Note the coffered ceilings on the right.
Renters can enjoy the property’s kooky decor as well as the many indoor plants and trees.
Next is this cove, which is large enough to fit a grand piano—although this particular one unfortunately won’t be available for future residents.
In the kitchen: a peninsula, a central island, quirky furniture and one dramatic hood fan.
There’s custom cabinetry throughout the kitchen, plus Miele appliances and a Sub-Zero Fridge.
This angle highlights the abundant storage, marble backsplash, gas cooktop and corner sink.
Here’s a peek inside the powder room. Its cantilevered double vanity with a foot stand is a nice touch.
Now for the raised rec room, equipped with a pool table and a bar with a fridge and an ice maker. Those French doors on the left open up to a Juliet balcony overlooking the soon-to-debut King Toronto condos.
Opposite the pool table is this deceptively contemporary gas fireplace, flanked by built-in shelving.
The formal dining room is pristine.
Now for the unit’s three bedrooms, each of which has an ensuite bathroom. Here’s the main suite, with a sitting area at its entrance.
Here’s the sleeping area.
And here’s the dressing room, like a Harry Rosen flagship.
This is the main ensuite, with a raised soaker tub, a TV and a glass shower with a rainfall head.
Check out the ensuite’s curved vanity.
Here’s one of the secondary bedrooms, currently fashioned as an office. It has double closets and another ensuite bathroom.
This secondary ensuite bathroom—with a grotto-like shower—is a modern departure from the rest of the home.
Finally, for a bit of fun, the third bedroom has a spiral staircase. It leads to the space’s loft, which crowns the ensuite.
