Neighbourhood: Forest Hill South Price: $8,500,000 Size: 7,760 square feet Bedrooms: 6+1 Bathrooms: 7 Parking spots: 8 Real estate agents: Barry Cohen, RE/MAX Realtron Barry Cohen Homes Inc.

The Place

A seven-bedroom, seven-bathroom zen hideaway sandwiched between Bathurst and Spadina in Forest Hill, this property is defined by its wacky steel-framed structure. It’s also home to Toronto’s first-ever approved garden suite—itself a modern and elegant building standing in the backyard. High-tech doohickeys—a built-in sound system, automated lighting, heated floors—characterize the main house, which also comes with an elevator for humans and a basement lift for vehicles. Residents are within walking distance of both Cedarvale Park and the recently renamed Cedarvale subway station. And motorists are a quick drive from Allen Road.

The History

The current owner, an architect, built the house to be his private residence. He applied for garden suite permits in 2022 and was granted the city’s first approval by 2023. Now, he’s selling the architectural standout to focus on his next project abroad.

The Tour

Out front, the home’s kooky façade is joined by a heated driveway and a handy EV charging port.
