Doughnuts are having a gourmet moment, thanks to chic outfits like Jelly Modern on Bathurst and Delica in Leslieville (formerly Paulette’s). The latest entrant in the fancy dough game is Von Doughnuts, a sleek red-and-white storefront that launched last week on the Danforth. The doughnuts at Von come in two basic varieties—cake and yeast-raised—but the flavour profiles are anything but ordinary. They range from mildly playful (e.g. curry-coconut) to slightly alarming (e.g. dill pickle). Several confections are infused with booze, like the tequila-spiked One Night Stand and the sticky, rum-drizzled Greek Town, which pays homage to the neighbourhood’s Hellenic roots.
