The last five years have seen a raft of Vancouver-based Asian eateries setting up shop in Toronto: Kingyo, Guu, Kinton, Hapa Izakaya and Ramen Raijin, to name just a few. Now the west-coast culinary invasion continues with Miku, a high-end Japanese restaurant known for its artful sashimi platters and flame-seared sushi. Fans of Koji Tashiro, the sushi maestro at JaBistro, may be familiar with Miku—it’s where he worked before he came to Toronto. For the uninitiated, the Vancouver Sun recently deemed Miku “one of the top three Japanese restaurants” in Vancouver, which is high praise for a city that’s crammed to capacity with top-notch izakayas and sushi bars. The precise timing and location of the launch have yet to be confirmed, but a publicity rep for the restaurant tells us that Miku will be making its Toronto debut “in the very near future.” Stay tuned for more details.
