Next week, 10 of the country’s top Canadian Filipino chefs will come together at Islas Filipino BBQ and Bar in Downsview for an evening of culture, cuisine and community.

The one-night-only event on June 9, called Taste of Unity: A Filipino Culinary Experience, will be held in honour of the victims of Vancouver’s Lapu-Lapu Day festival tragedy. All proceeds raised will be donated to Filipino BC and the affected families.

The 10-course tasting menu will be prepared by a lineup of award-winning Filipino Canadian chefs including Toronto’s own Immanuel Pascual of Michelin Bib Gourmand–awarded BB’s, Marvin Palomo of Vela, Dennis Tay of DaiLo, Mineral’s Daniel Cancino, Francis Bermejo of Mother Tongue, Diona Joyce of Kanto, Casa Manila’s Mila Nabor-Cuachon and Marc Buenaventura from Islas. Each participating chef will showcase a signature dish that highlights Filipino culture and flavours.

“Our goal is to showcase the richness of Filipino cuisine and culture while uniting for a cause greater than ourselves,” Mariel Buenaventura, founder of iSLAS and Pinay Tayo, said in a statement. “This is more than a dinner—it’s a heartfelt tribute to our community’s strength and solidarity.”
