What would an IKEA-branded lollipop taste like? A cinnamon bun? Gingersnap cookies? Daim chocolate-covered toffee? Those flavours make sense, but no. The iconic furniture company has teamed up with Spanish lollipop-maker Chupa Chups to bring us—drum roll, please—a meatball-flavoured sucker. Sure, that sounds pretty upprörande (that’s Swedish for “revolting”), but so are hot dog ingredients, and the brand’s $1 wieners are still the best reason to pick up a Billy bookcase in person.

The wacky sweet treat—inspired by Swedish meatballs, obviously, as well as the lingonberry sauce that goes with them—started off as an April Fool’s prank. Then perhaps somebody in the marketing department got stoned and thought, Maybe that’s not such a ridiculous idea after all! This June (which feels a couple of months too late given the clear 4/20 synergy), one million of the limited edition lollipops will be distributed to IKEA stores across the globe, including Canadian locations. They won’t be available for purchase but will be given out to shoppers.

So we wait. But, also, we brainstorm follow-up flavours for 2027: marinated herring in mustard sauce seems like an obvious choice. Or perhaps a combination of blood, sweat and tears inspired by the Allen key getting jammed, the middle shelf ending up upside down and the assembly being only half done.
