Former Drake chef Anthony Rose to open a trio of Toronto restaurants

Ever since chef Anthony Rose left his position at The Drake back in April (having accomplished his mission of turning the place into a mecca for young urbanites with a penchant for upscale comfort food), we’ve been hankering to know what he’d be up to next. We recently spoke with Rose, and discovered that he’s been busy plotting the development of several new restaurants under the name Rose and Sons. Although nothing’s set in stone, Rose aims to open an ambitious three restaurants in the next two years, each with its own unique flavour and atmosphere. Rose has scoured Toronto’s neighbourhoods—from Leslieville, to the Junction, to Yonge and Eglinton—looking for the ideal spaces to set up shop. While he hasn’t nailed anything down yet, it’s safe to assume Rose and Sons won’t open in the downtown core, where sky-high rents leave little room for flexibility with landlords. When it comes down to it, though, location isn’t his paramount concern. Rose told us: “I just want to make good food for good people.”
