A new gelateria brings durian-flavoured ice cream to Baldwin Village
Among the spate of new businesses on Baldwin Street’s restaurant row—including ramen shop Ryus and soon-to-open taqueria Agave y Aguacate—is Kekou, the city’s first Asian gelateria. Unlike your typical parlour, Kekou’s house-made gelato comes in flavours like sour sop, guava-plum-salt and even durian, a fruit so famously putrid (it smells like rotten meat wrapped in an old gym sock) that it’s banned on Singaporean subways. Seating is limited, but the trio of benches out front provide a suitable perch for savouring a scoop.
