Corey Mintz’s review of Café du Lac sparks Twitter drama
It’s was a tad more intriguing than the typical Twitter fight when several fake Corey Mintz accounts were created this week allegedly by a chef at Café du Lac who didn’t like Mintz’s review (he pooh-pooh’d the soggy fries in his foie gras-topped poutine) in the Star last week.
The aliases popped up and added all the people that follow the real Mintz, prompting the Twitterati to alert him of the impersonators ironically spewing out Tweets about all the fake Mintz accounts out there.
“Unpleasant. But the price we pay for free public discourse. Thanks everyone,” Mintz first Tweeted.
“Hey gang. Anyone want a stalker, 1/2 price? Mine is back with three new IDs: costa sarganis, costanamintz and coreymintzs,” Mintz continued.
The fake accounts have all been deleted since, but the drama was recounted in Shinan Govani’s National Post column yesterday. Stay strong, Mintz. After all, impersonation is the best form of flattery.

It was with great shock and dismay that our team read the Post article. The furor that has been caused by a simple review, albeit not the most positive review, but simply a review has been very disheartening to the dedicated hard working professional team of our highly popular Quebecois establishment.
The person in question comments and actions were NOT sanctioned or even known by the team. When the actions were discovered by his partner, she begged him to stop his behaviour, get a grip and even went so far as to advise Mr. Mintz of the person’s actions.
A review is simply a review. It is a reflection of a time and point in the history of the place. Mr. Mintz happened to visit on the week that we had few properly trained staff in place and were not on our best focus. With the exception of a couple of errors (we don’t have any custard dishes!) his review was a reflection of that week. In follow up emails with Mr. Mintz, we discussed that this is a learning experience and it is our duty to ensure that we continue to work on the things that we need to further our early successes — or close if we can’t do it right! LOL!
The team, from the front of the house to the back of the house is hard working and dedicated to serving the most tasty treats from La Belle Provence. And, our growing popularity in a neighbourhood formerly lacking in culinary excellence is a testament to our success. As Mr. Mintz did say – people thank the kitchen all the time as they do enjoy the food! We do not want the actions of one person to besmirch the hard work and dedication of the team.
We welcome you or anyone else to visit and can assure you that moving forward, you will always receive a very crispy fry on your poutine!
Interesting. The handful of times I visited Cafe du Lac in the past 8 months we received sub-par food in some form or another, including soggy fries/poutine on two separate occasions. Each time we provided feedback to the server, we too received the ‘improperly trained’ or ‘new’ staff response.
That excuse got eventually got old and we stopped going.

HORRIBLE!!!!!! I should have read this before I wasted my $$. The owner was the server and she was an absolute B#$%#! Probably why no one is eating here…. the fois gras tasted like dog food…but my dog probably wouldnt even eat it!
Just read the top post, who is the owner that served me… I cant believe this place is still open… CLOSE ALREADY! Do they not read these reviews!
