A “dirty soda” shop just opened at the Dufferin Mall

It really is the mall with it all

A popular soda trend that’s been proliferating in the US since 2010 just popped up in Toronto. Fiiz Drinks, a Utah-based brand, is bringing “dirty soda,” a booze-free beverage made popular by the state’s Mormon population (vice is as vice does), to the Dufferin Mall. The kiosk is now mixing up choose-your-own-adventure combinations of popular soft drinks with add-ins including cream, flavoured syrups and fruit. Dirty soda at the Dirty Duff? Sounds like a match made in heaven.

The dirty soda blitz began when Swig, a shop in St. George, Utah, started “spiking” sodas with creamy and sugary add-ins so that teetotalling Mormons could live a little. Fast forward to 2022, when the polluted pop went viral after Olivia Rodrigo posted a photo holding a Swig cup full of soda swill. More recently, the trend has experienced a surge thanks to cameos on The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives.

All Fiiz drinks are customizable, but some signature standouts from the brand’s first Canadian outpost include the Pina Cola-da (Coke, coconut, pineapple, cream), the Over the Rainbow (fruity Sprite, whipped cream, rainbow sour candy, rainbow sprinkles), and the Berry Bad Doctor (Dr. Pepper, coconut, vanilla, cream, raspberry purée). Body-positive British influencer Christy Collins stopped by the Duff a few days ago to concoct her own recipe, the Christy Collins Bangin’ Sweetheart. It’s a blend of Sprite, passion fruit, vanilla, raspberry, strawberry, cream, whipped cream and raspberry purée with a cherry on top.

Customers who want to boost their caloric intake even further can tack on a few raw dough bites (available in peanut butter, sprinkle and chocolate chip). And hey, if one ends up floating in your soda, who are we to judge?
