The TSO will perform a musical ode to Toronto (Rob Ford as tuba? We hope so)

A little more than a week after a much-publicized performance of Rob Ford: The Opera, the Toronto Symphony Orchestra has revealed its own plans for a Toronto-centric concert (coincidence? We think not). TSO music director Peter Oundjian announced today that he has commissioned composer Tod Machover—who, ironically, lives in Boston—to pen a symphony about the city. This musical ode to Hogtown will incorporate online suggestions from city residents (no official word on how that will play out), with the March 2013 premiere date allowing ample time for the public to drum up ideas. We’re thinking Rob Ford as a tuba solo sounds just about right, and perhaps they could represent Margaret Atwood with a harp solo for good measure.
